Syracuse Salt Co. Salt Spring Spice

Their blends,
built on our salt.

Salt Spring Spice makes their small-batch Heritage Collection a few miles up the road in East Syracuse. The base of every jar is the same Salt City flake salt we draw from brine 280 feet underground. Two Syracuse names, one shelf.

Meet the three blends

The collaboration

One city, two makers, one jar.

Syracuse has been Salt City since the 1800s, when this is where the country got its salt. Two of the makers keeping that name honest sit within a few miles of each other. We draw and flake the salt. Salt Spring Spice builds the blends around it.

Every blend in their Heritage Collection starts with our Syracuse flake as its foundation, then layers on smoke, herbs, maple, char, and heat. The salt is the reason the blends taste clean instead of dusty. The blends are the reason the salt lands on a steak you remember. It runs in both directions, which is the whole point of a good collaboration.

Syracuse Salt Co.

The salt

We make Salt City Flake from brine drawn 280 feet under Central New York, slow evaporated into a crisp, mineral-rich flake. It is the base every one of these blends is built on.

Salt Spring Spice

The blends

Small-batch seasoning from East Syracuse. Their Heritage Collection turns our salt into three finished blends, each one numbered, each built for a different night at the stove.

The Heritage Collection

Canal Side No. 1 jar, front label. Canal Side No. 1 with the herb blend poured out in front of the jar.

No. 1

Canal Side

Garlic & Herb

The everyday jar. Roasted garlic and six herbs on our flake salt, leaning Italian, with no onion and no fennel getting in the way. Roast chicken, red sauce, garlic bread, a two minute vinaigrette.

Iron Pier No. 2 jar, front label. Iron Pier No. 2 with the smoked maple blend poured out in front of the jar.

No. 2

Iron Pier

Cherrywood Smoke & Maple

Hand this one to whoever runs the grill. Cherrywood smoked salt and Dutch Hill maple sugar, with just enough cayenne to keep the sweetness honest. Burgers, ribs, pork, sweet potato fries.

Black Forge No. 4 jar, front label, the blend is jet black. Black Forge No. 4 jar, back label with ingredients.

No. 4

Black Forge

Forged Steakhouse

Jet black and dramatic, and a serious rub underneath the theater. Shiitake and applewood smoke bring deep, meaty umami. Turbinado sugar builds a crust worth arguing over. Steak, mushrooms, cast iron dinners.
